Meet our new Head of Gardens and Estate!

  • 11th Jul 2018

This month we welcomed Alasdair Moore to the Heligan team. Alasdair joins us as our new Head of Gardens and Estate. He will lead the way on a new chapter for the Gardens and we are delighted to have him in the Heligan family.

Alasdair joins us from the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery where he had been their Horticultural Manager for three years. Prior to this he was Marketing Manager for Tresco on the Isles of Scilly, having been Assistant Head Gardener at Tresco Abbey Gardens for nearly 10 years. Alasdair has a special interest in plants from the southern hemisphere, his favourite is the Protea due to its flowers being so extravagant despite the dry conditions it favours!

A keen writer Alasdair has been known to provide horticultural writing for Gardens Illustrated, The Independent, Telegraph as well as a book about Sir Thomas Hanbury, the creator of the beautiful garden at La Mortola in Italy. Alasdair has a Kew Diploma in Botanic Garden Management and has led horticultural tours to South Africa, Japan, China and the French Riviera.

Please say hi and welcome Alasdair if you spot him on your garden travels.
