Reporting To: Jungle Supervisor & Head of Gardens
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are looking to recruit a part time gardener to join their experienced and dedicated team in the Jungle and Steward’s House Garden.
Role Overview:
We pride ourselves on our high standards. As a Gardener here you will carry out numerous gardening duties, requiring a minimum amount of supervision including –
- soil cultivation: forking, hoeing, mulching, watering, edging, raking, weeding
- bed preparation and planting: weeding, planting, pruning, watering and propagation
- any other horticultural tasks required to maintain the highest standards in the garden
- engaging and enthusing our visitors of all ages and answering their questions
- the use and maintenance of both hand tools and machinery
Skills/Experience:
Gardening staff need to:-
- demonstrate prior experience of working in a garden, estate or similar horticultural setting
- be familiar with plant identification, propagation and pest/disease recognition
- be able to use tools, including power tools
- be physically fit and comfortable working across challenging terrain, with steep slopes and dense plantings
- be able to work independently and as part of a team
- be able to work flexibly, according to seasons and weather
- be happy to talk to our visitors
- be willing to help out in other departments and areas when needed
Qualities you will need to display:
For this position we are looking for people who have an interest in, or working knowledge of temperate woodland flora, including exotic species. The successful candidate will:
- have a genuine enthusiasm for hands on horticulture and working as part of a small collaborative team
- enjoy working outside in all weathers.
- have the ability to follow instructions and work with a high level of care and precision
- be hard working and adaptable to change
- have good communication skills

Hours of work: 2 days per week (16 hours per week)
Salary: £10,699.60 p/a
