Gold at The Cornwall Tourism Awards

  • 2nd Nov 2018

We extremely proud to say that we have scooped yet another award as we have been awarded gold in the ‘Large Attraction of The Year’ category at the annual Cornwall Tourism Awards. The announcement was made on the evening of 1st of November, it was truly the ‘night of the year’ for the cream of the Cornish Tourism Industry with approximately 400 Finalists and Sponsors gathering in the iconic Truro Cathedral.

We were thrilled to be named as a finalist in the fiercely competitive Large Attraction of The Year category.   The National Trusts Glendurgan and Trelissick Gardens joined us as finalists.

The Cornwall Tourism Award judges not only made secret visits to each attraction but also looked at all aspects of the business, such as online presence, accessibility and green credentials as part of the judging process. To be amongst the winners was a very significant achievement indeed.

After a black-tie dinner and plenty of nail biting, Heligan was named ‘Large Attraction of The Year’ 2018/19. Our Marketing Manager Lorna Tremayne and Digital Media Manager James Stephens took to the stage to accept the award from the Cornwall Tourism Awards.

“We are incredibly honoured to receive this prestigious award. The Cornwall Tourism Awards are fiercely competed and judged rigorously, so to win Gold as Large Attraction of the year in the UK’s favourite holiday region is just incredible. This award is one for the whole team at Heligan, who have worked very hard throughout this year.” George Elworthy, Managing Director at The Lost Gardens of Heligan.

It’s been an award-winning year for us here at The Lost Gardens as we have already been named BBC Countryfile Magazine’s ‘Garden of the Year’ and were also voted Number 1 Garden in the South West by Garden News Magazine; which makes the Cornwall Tourism Awards Heligan’s first hat-trick this year.  We are Hoping to continue on our winning streak, as we have also been named as a finalist in the Best UK Leisure/ Heritage Attraction category of the 2018 British Travel Awards. Having won this prestigious award in both 2017 and 2016, we’re aiming to complete our second hat-trick later in this month.
