Regenerative Farming

With an estate comprising of over 200 acres that has been grazed and farmed for over half a millennia, Heligan is the natural theatre for the essential themes of farming, climate, food and land.

The Regenerative Farm - a Lost Garden of Heligan Film

This documentary captures the start of our journey exploring new ways of farming that harness the power of the natural systems of sunlight, plants and soil. Working with experts such as Tim Williams, Cornish-based regenerative pastoralist, we’ve been trialling a system for grazing our ‘flerd’ (that’s our flock and herd of native breed sheep and cattle) with a focus on restoring soil health.

This is our story so far, captured for Heligan by Herenow Films.

For the past thirty years, Heligan’s mantra has been the restoration of the lost: a lost variety of pea; a lost breed of sheep; a lost sense of connection with nature… understanding the past and looking to the future. It is Heligan’s restorative pulse that makes it such a natural space for investigating regenerative farming.
