School groups
Bring your classroom to life at The Lost Gardens of Heligan where learning happens among gardens, woodland, farm and jungle. Our school visits are designed to spark curiosity, inspire creativity, and give your pupils unforgettable, hands-on experiences in nature.
We believe learning doesn’t belong in boxes – it belongs outdoors, where children can connect with the living world. We want to support you as teachers, giving you the confidence to teach in nature and about nature.
Our schools programme links clearly to the national curriculum and is designed to extend learning beyond the classroom in creative ways.
Whether you would like a fully guided experience or a self-led adventure, we would love to welcome your school group to Heligan. Our learning team is here to help shape the perfect day for your pupils.

Assemblies and school-based workshops
We love welcoming school groups to Heligan, but we can also bring a little bit of Heligan to you. Our learning team and garden experts enjoy visiting schools to share stories, knowledge and a passion for the natural world. Whether it’s a 30-minute whole-school assembly or an hour-long class workshop, we can cover everything from wildflowers and wildlife to gardening, farming and environmental science.
Some of our popular subjects include:
· Beavers as “ecological engineers” – discover how beavers shape their environment, how they are adapted to their habitats, why they’re known as a keystone species and where they’re being reintroduced across the UK.

Heligan conservation – learn about our work with water voles, glow-worms, and beavers, our rare breeds farm and future red squirrel plans.
· Seasonal Cornish flora and fauna – explore the rhythms of local wildlife through the year: nesting, foraging, breeding, migrating and spotting wildflowers in the hedgerows. (Rangers apple pics)
· Heligan harvest assembly - meet our gardeners and discover what’s in season, how fruit and vegetables grow in the UK and the importance of pollinators and healthy soil.
