Heligan Beaver Tour

Talk detail

We’ll meet in the Heligan car park before heading to The Lodge, our nature-connected learning space, for an introduction to Heligan’s beavers. From there, we’ll walk through the old orchard and woodland to the beaver wetland, with the chance to spot wildlife such as woodpeckers and voles along the way.

As dusk begins to settle, we’ll quietly explore the wetland together and see how these remarkable animals are transforming the landscape around them, offering a glimpse of how Britain’s waterways may have looked 400 years ago. From felling trees to building dams and lodges in which to raise their kits, we’ll discover how beavers create habitats that support a rich diversity of other wildlife.

Now, more than two years since their arrival and home to a growing family of four, we invite you to join us for this unique insight into the lives and landscape-shaping work of Heligan’s beaver

Essential information

  • Meet in the Heligan car park at 5:30
  • Please note that this event will take place in an area of the Heligan estate that is quite steep and potentially muddy in places. We'd advise sturdy waterproof footwear or wellies and the ability to duck under a fence at the bottom of the valley! We'd also suggest long sleeve and trousers as we may head into the undergrowth.
  • No pathways have yet been created, this event is for those over the age of 16 and we ask that dogs are not brought to the tour.
  • We ask that guests do not use cameras with a flash.
  • Food and drink will not be provided, so you are more than welcome to bring a drink and snack if you wish.
  • Beavers are crepuscular so they're mostly active at dawn and dusk. As our enclosure is so big, we can't guarantee that we'll see our beavers, but we'll certainly try our best.
