Head of Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
£16,000 per annum (£40,000 pro-rata)
Part-time – 2 days per week (16 hours, worked flexibly across a minimum of 2 days on site)
The Lost Gardens of Heligan is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) to provide strategic leadership across the organisation.
This is a key role, working closely with the CEO, Directors and operational teams to embed a proactive, positive culture of safety, sustainability and continuous improvement across the estate.
The successful candidate will lead on all aspects of SHEQ, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards while driving best practice across all departments. They will provide expert guidance to managers and teams, supporting the development of robust systems, processes and behaviours that underpin a safe, efficient and high-quality visitor experience.
They will oversee health and safety across the site, including the development and implementation of policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work. Regular audits will be conducted to identify areas for improvement, with clear action plans developed, monitored and reported on. The role will also involve delivering training, coaching managers and teams and ensuring all records and compliance documentation are maintained to a high standard.
Working in partnership with the Operations and Duty Management teams, the postholder will also lead on environmental strategy, supporting Heligan’s sustainability ambitions. This includes ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, reducing resource use and contributing to initiatives such as BCorp and Planet Mark accreditation, as well as progressing towards Net Zero. They will also help deliver education and awareness programmes for both staff and visitors.
In addition, the role will drive quality and continuous improvement across the organisation, aligning standards and processes with strategic objectives. This will include conducting gap analyses against ISO standards, developing and implementing quality management systems and identifying opportunities to enhance operational excellence across the site.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a similar role, with a strong track record of influencing and engaging stakeholders at all levels. They will hold a NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH qualification or equivalent and demonstrate excellent analytical and reporting skills. Experience of achieving recognised accreditations is desirable.
This is a part-time role requiring a flexible approach, with a minimum of two days per week on site.
