January 2020 events round-up

We’re welcoming 2020 with a variety of wonderful events. Connect with nature and ‘Turn a new leaf’ with our restorative winter walk or anticipate what joys spring will bring by watching the Ewe Scanning.

Charity Day

1st January

The iconic Lost Gardens of Heligan once again opens its gates in aid of local charities on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Whilst no garden admission charges are made on these special days, visitors are encouraged to make a donation to this year’s charities which are Cornwall Air Ambulance, People and Gardens, Sea Sanctuary and Refuge 4 Pets.

Soup Month

1st January – 31st January

The Heligan Kitchen has dedicated the month of January as ‘Heligan Soup Month’. With seasonal produce, such as leeks and winter greens arriving daily, the chefs are excited to create at least three different homemade soups every day with vegan, vegetarian and meat/fish options available.

Turn a New Leaf Walk

Monday 6th January – 29th February

In the spirit of New Year, this January and February The Lost Gardens of Heligan invite you to ‘turn over a new leaf’ and connect with nature. Pop your wellies on and join us for a healthy, restorative walk to truly appreciate the wonders of winter at Heligan.

Ewe Scanning

Sunday 19th January 11am

Join The Lost Gardens of Heligan to see the first glimpse of new life, as we will be scanning our flock of pregnant ewes LIVE in front of our visitors inside The Barn. Make sure you are here early on Sunday 19th January to pull up a bale and get a good view!

The Great Dahlia Giveaway

Saturday 25th – Sunday 26th January 12-2pm

You may have caught sight of the dazzling array of dahlia blooms that lit up the flower bed in the Steward’s House garden at The Lost Gardens of Heligan this summer. Now that the blooms have subsided and the tubers have gone to sleep, we have removed them from the soil ready to rest for the winter. We are thrilled to be able to offer some of these beautiful plants to our visitors to take away and grow in their own gardens. All we ask for in exchange is a small donation to our chosen charity of Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Big Garden Birdwatch

Saturday 25th – Monday 27th January 10am-4pm

Join The Lost Gardens this January in the Heligan Wildlife Hide as we take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch. Come and enjoy an hour with the birds whilst helping us record numbers that will give us a great snapshot of how our garden birds are faring.
