Making their beds!

It’s that time of year again, as The Lost Gardens of Heligan gardeners make their annual 3 mile pilgrimage to the shore side at Portmellon near Mevagissey, to collect seaweed for the asparagus beds in the Kitchen Garden.

Seaweed is nutrient dense, relatively low in nitrogen and phosphorus as well as a good fungal and pest preventative. Seaweed adds vital minerals to the soil as it binds and conditions, improving its consistency and ability to retain water.
