I’m not a gardener but I know a special garden when I enter one and Heligan just has something about it, it’s a magical place with so much energy coming from the land. When I walk to my workshop in the early morning, I always feel a sense of pride and of satisfaction about working in such a beautiful setting. It’s a feeling that will never wear off.

If you asked me on my first day of work at Heligan what my favourite vegetable was, I would have said the tomatoes that make the ketchup. If you'd have asked me how many colours do carrots come in, I would have simply laughed at you and told you they only come in orange.

The hum of summer has arrived, spreading through the garden with its many shapes and forms. Foxgloves protrude from the ground only to lean across paths bowing under the weight of their large tubular flowers.
The Gardens in May
02 May 2019
The last few days have been still and calm with warmth more suitable to shorts than trousers. Wherever you go birdsong fills the air, a soundtrack to a garden in bloom. Giant deciduous trees unfurl their bright green leaves filling the canopy above and shading the forest floor beneath. It is here that wildflower carpets of blue, pink and yellow flood all available space. Pollinators thrive here, their industrious hum evidence of a flourishing landscape. From the Estate, the Jungle and the Paddocks to the Pleasure Grounds and the walled Productive Gardens, Heligan is a joy for the visitor in May.
