Heligan Seed Swap - ‘Preserving the past to protect the future’
Sunday 10th February, 11pm-2pm
Here at Heligan, we are passionate about growing heritage varieties from seed to plate. Every seed tells a story and the ‘Heligan Seed Swap’ gives our visitors the opportunity to grow some of our traditional crops within their own gardens. The very best way to ensure that heritage varieties prosper is to grow them and where possible to save seed to share with future generations.
The Heritage Seed Library (Garden Organic) have joined us for this event and have sent a package of various seeds that are only available through their HSL catalogue – this is a real bonus and an opportunity to grow seed not ordinarily available to the public!
The Gardeners’ Market and Plant Swap will also be joining us and promoting their own Plant Swap event, held on Saturday mornings from April to September, at St Bartholomew’s Churchyard, Lostwithiel. We are excited to work with some of our local community groups who love growing just as much as we do! Our Lostwithiel friends will be bringing seed gathered from various seed merchants and are hoping to increase awareness of what their event offers for the local community.
Heligan Seed Swap is a friendly and informal event and will be held in Coffee Corner just outside the main Heligan Kitchen and Tearooms. We invite you to bring along your seeds to swap or to make donation (towards local charities Friends of St Bartholomew’s [FOSB] or People & Gardens).
We look forward to seeing you there, swapping some seeds and preserving our horticultural past to protect our plants’ future.
