About the Role
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are pleased to be looking to recruit a Schools Engagement Lead to be an integral part of the new Heligan Learning hub project –The Seed Pod.
This exciting new project aims to ignite curiosity in the natural world.
With The Lost Gardens of Heligan as the classroom the role will combine outdoor learning and the natural world, utilising the unique assets and spaces that Heligan has to offer. This learning programme aims to provide a forum through which knowledge is exchanged and facilitate increasingly important conversations about the environment, biodiversity, food and the future of the world we live in.
Supporting both curriculum-based and extra-curricular learning across all age ranges Heligan Learning inspires you to re-connect with your sense of wonder.
This exciting role will sit within the newly formed Heligan Learning & Wellbeing department having responsibility for creatively planning, developing and delivering a varied programme of education projects and resources to a range of groups and schools within the local and wider community.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, creative and ambitious with an ability to inspire curiosity in the natural world and a passion for education and wellbeing.
Job Description
Job Title: Schools Engagement Lead
Main Duties:
- Develop and deliver a programme of educational courses and programmes aimed at nursery and school visitors aged 2 to 16, and work experience opportunities as part of Heligan Learning.
- Create educational resources and assets for visiting school groups.
- Design and develop an enriching programme of courses and learning opportunities to be delivered in person and across a variety of platforms beyond Heligan.
- Review the success and impact of the Heligan Learning programme.
- Stay up to date with new training methods and techniques particularly within the outdoor learning field.
- Communicate the benefits of outdoor learning on both education and wellbeing.
- Responsible for the operations and logistics of existing programmes e.g. scouts, school groups etc
Key Skills
- Degree in education or natural sciences.
- Experience of teaching or training (ideally as a primary school based teacher).
- Understanding and passion for outdoor education and nature-based learning techniques.
- A commitment to providing an inclusive programme that enables equal access to learning for all.
- Some knowledge of the natural world, environmental sciences, horticulture, land management and sustainability; and confidence to deliver programmes in these sectors would be an advantage.
Desirable Skills/Experience
Experience delivering education within the SEND community.
- Knowledge of learning management systems and web delivery tools.
- Experience with e-learning platforms.
Enthusiasm, a ‘can-do’ attitude, a willingness to get stuck in and a good sense of humour are essential, as is an appreciation for our Heligan history and story

The Package
Annual salary: £28k - £30k per annum
