Estate Ranger - Supervisor

Location: The Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Austell, Cornwall

Salary: £25k

Contract: Full time permanent, 40 hours per week with 28 days holiday a year

 

The Lost Gardens of Heligan is an extraordinary, beautiful and historic Cornish estate, which has become one of Cornwall’s most popular and best-loved destinations. We are looking to recruit an Estate Supervisor to help us conserve and regenerate 160 acres of Heligan’s woodland, hedgerows and grassland.

 

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Estate Team, carrying out practical land management, developing wildlife habitats and biodiversity, assisting the Farm Team. You will also be required to assist in delivering events and engage with visitors to give them the best experience during their visit.

 

To be considered for this post it is essential that candidates have relevant qualifications in and experience of:

  • Team management
  • Tractor driving and using a range of tractor mounted equipment
  • Operating chainsaws (over 380mm) and brush cutters
  • Practical land management
  • Working outdoors throughout the year
  • Good knowledge of ecological principles and UK habitats
  • Good communication skills
  • Full driving licence

In addition to the above, candidates will preferably also have experience of:

 

  • Path repair
  • Fencing and gate hanging
  • Basic machinery maintenance
  • An understanding of traditional woodland management
  • Livestock experience

The role will require a high level of commitment, enthusiasm and flexibility. Some weekend working is involved.
