Creative Programme Manager

Reporting to: Managing Director
Duration: Permanent: 32 Hours per week.
Salary range: £32,000- £40,000 per annum pro rata, Dependent on experience

About the role
Heligan’s award winning events programme provides a variety of fun, imaginative, and educational outdoor activities, where attention to detail, creative planning and a sense of playfulness are essential. Our events are meaningful; our events form part of our guests’ traditions, creating memories for families, romantic garden lovers, and our future generations.

We are looking to find an experienced programme manager with a strong flair for imaginative and educational curation of experiences. They will manage the creative content of our annual programme of events at Heligan. This role will ensure that all events are in keeping with the Heligan brand and strategy. The Creative Programme Manager will manage the budget for events and will ensure that all events are planned, communicated and delivered in a timely manner and to budget.

Main duties
• Be the creative lead on the annual programme of events across our 200 acre site.
• Develop and manage the events budget ensuring that each event represents quality, value for money and visitor satisfaction whilst delivering/exceeding expected visitor numbers.
• Manage the team of event managers, supervisors, and stewards delegating projects to relevant events staff, ensuring maximum efficiency and impact, alongside ensuring a happy office is provided and a strong team led.
• Ensure regular communication happens with the events team and the wider Heligan team regarding onsite events.
• Work closely with the marketing team to develop a programme that highlights the Heligan Experience with authenticity and care.
• This role requires evening and weekend work on site and outdoors in all weathers.
• To communicate our stories through varied methods, with immersive and innovative interpretation projects across our 200 acre site.

Key Responsibilities
• Ensure that you respond to the requirements of different audiences at key times of the year.
• Creative lead on outdoor play builds across the site.
• Ensure all events are on brand and reflective of Heligan’s core values and celebrate nature and all habitats cared for at Heligan.
• Make sure events information is generated in a timely manner.
• Uphold health and safety standards through all events and activities.
• Ensure the events team work to high standards, are well trained and have customer service as a key focus.
• Ensure events are accessible to all audiences.
• Prioritise the planning and delivery of all events to be ethical, environmentally responsible and with a focus on sustainability and care for all life.

• Ability to lead and inspire a team of people to run an event with enthusiasm and confidence.
• Creative problem-solving skills.
• Be ahead of the trends, looking forward to what will engage and inspire, keeping the experience fresh but recognisable.
• Financial skills to create budgets for the annual programme of events and ensure that all events are delivered within that budget.
• Great people skills, meeting artists, performers, makers, authors, outdoor educators and working creatively to develop new events collaboratively.
• The ability to communicate affectively at all levels, working with all departments.
• Line management skills, working with a core team of event supervisors, you will delegate work to achieve maximum productivity.
• A friendly and warm approach to customer service, understanding the importance of a visitor’s first impression.
• Ability to work as part of a team and a willingness to be flexible.
• Confidence in customer facing situations and the ability to handle varied situations calmly and professionally.
• This is an operational role and requires clear communication skills, the ability to respond and manage a crisis and a love of the unknown. No two days are the same.
• The ability to reflect and review critically and to creatively welcome feedback.
• To champion warm welcomes, fond farewells and to respond to all visitor queries, compliments and complaints.
• You must be an engaging storyteller.
• Comfortable with computer tasks as required for this position.

Desirable skills/experience
• Experience of running events in a Visitor Destination or hospitality environment.
• An understanding of the tourism sector.
• A background in creative industries.
• A love and interest in horticulture, livestock, wildlife, and food.
• An interest in the great outdoors and nature.
• An appreciation and respect for our Heligan history and story.
• A keen understanding of the positive power of nature on wellbeing.
• Ambitious, positive, with a can-do attitude and a sense of humour and adventure.
• Experience in delivering events to a high standard.
• The ability to learn from the past to inform the future.
