Discover the fascinating restoration story of The Lost Gardens of Heligan with a captivating talk by Peter Lavis. Peter’s talks are accompanied by a slide show of enthralling images, illustrating the dramatic transformation that has taken place at Heligan since their discovery in 1990.
LOST GARDENS, LOST GARDENERS
Follow the absorbing stories of the Heligan staff who left the gardens and estate to fight in the First World War. As researcher on the award-winning publication Heligan History: Lost Gardens, Lost Gardeners, Peter has personally worked on uncovering the subject. The talk is accompanied by evocative archive images illustrating these remarkable wartime stories.
HELIGAN - A NATIONAL COLLECTION.
In 2008 Heligan was granted National Collection Holder status by Plant Heritage for its historic and unique collection: Camellias and Rhododendrons introduced to Heligan pre-1920.
Be amazed at the Stories of three famous plant hunters who collected the seeds which ultimately led to much of this collection, look at stunning images of these plants in the garden and see just what Heligan is doing to protect their future from the ravages of disease and old age so that generations to come can continue to admire their beauty.
All three talks last approximately one hour including an opportunity to ask Peter your questions. Access to two power sockets and space for a screen is required to facilitate the slideshows that accompany the talks.
